A Better Fiji through Excellence in Foreign Service
15th August 2012: The Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola today met with the President of New Caledonia, Mr. Harold Martin to discuss the implementation of the Noumea Accord, particularly the work of the three Steering Committees that were established in 2010 to deal with the various pertinent issues emanating from the Accord .
The meeting also discussed bilateral issues relating to areas of cooperation between the two Governments. It was agreed that both parties would look into more innovative ways to strengthen their economic and bilateral relations.
"Given that New Caledonia is a neighbour and that we have good trade and travel connectivity, there are many areas in which we can benefit from each other," Mr. Kubuabola said.
Mr. Kubuabola also took advantage of the opportunity to discuss the progress on the implementation of Fiji's Roadmap and the preparations towards the 2014 democratic elections.
Minister Kubuabola is currently in Noumea leading the MSG Ministerial visit to New Caledonia to assess and monitor the implementation of the Noumea Accord as mandated by the MSG Leaders Summit early this year.
