Prime Minister Launches Flood Appeal

26th January, 2012:Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has launched a flood relief appeal to assist families affected by the flooding on the Western side of Viti Levu. As of this notice, there are 74 evacuation centers open housing 3,463 displaced people.

There have been six confirmed casualties.

People and interested parties intending to make donations to the appeal can make deposits to account number 4706578 BSP Bank.

Prime Minister Bainimarama has expressed his deep concern for the sufferings of affected and displaced Fijians, in particular those familiar who have lost loved ones in this tragic event. Individuals, organizations and businesses are encouraged to help their fellow Fijians in this time of need.

Contributions will be received by all domestic and international branches of BSP, which will issue each donor a receipt.

Government has also started receiving offers of aid from various organizations and overseas governments.

Members of the public wishing to donate can contact liaison officers in the various districts or call DISMAC on telephone 3319250.
