A Better Fiji through Excellence in Foreign Service
8th October 2011: This year’s Fiji Day celebration was a unique and memorable occasion for the Fiji Mission in Japan. The 2011 Fiji Day celebration was hosted in collaboration with the Yokohama Country & Athletics Club, members of the Fiji community in Tokyo and the Fiji Embassy Tokyo at the YC & AC facilities, Yokohama on Saturday 8 October, 2011.
Close to 200 guests attended the celebrations including YC & AC members, businessmen and women dealing with the Fiji market, friends of Fiji in Japan and members of the Fiji community in Tokyo, Kanagawa and Tochigi. This celebration was designed to truly reflect the 2011 Fiji Day celebration theme: Celebrating Fiji, One Nation One Destiny.
The Embassy to this effect, decided to celebrate our National Day with members of our community in Tokyo and nearby prefectures and with the great network of Fiji friends in Japan.
The Ambassador in his address thanked everyone for accepting the invitation to come and celebrate with a difference Fiji’s 41st Anniversary of Independence. The event was also a tremendous opportunity to further promote people to people exchanges and to showcase glimpses of the Fiji hospitality and the genuine friendliness that Fiji and its people are renowned for.
The Ambassador has since extended an open invitation to all our Japanese friends to visit Fiji and experience the warm hospitality and dream holiday that Fiji can offer.
An address by the Ambassador HE Mr. Isikeli Mataitoga thanking the Government and people of Japan for their support to Fiji during the last 41 years including updates on various key economic reforms in Fiji was published through the Japan Times on Monday 10th October, 2011. A full text of the Ambassador’s address is posted on the Newsletter column of the Fiji Embassy Tokyo website.
Fiji’s Honorary Consul to the Kansai region based in Osaka, Mr. Hirokazu Ishibashi with the assistance of Fiji nationals and friends living in Osaka also organized celebrations to mark the 41st Fiji Day Anniversary with an evening function on Saturday 8th October and an outdoor get-together on Sunday 9th October.
