London Celebrate Fiji Day

10th October 2011, London: About 200 invited guests joined High Commissioner, H.E Mr. Solo Mara and his staff to celebrate the first anniversary of Fiji’s fortieth birthday. 

The British Government was represented by the Marshall of the Diplomatic Corp, Mr. Charles Grey and representatives of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Other guests included members of the Diplomatic Corp, the Commonwealth Secretariat, Metropolitan Police, the British Army, representatives of the private sector, universities and NGOs with links to Fiji and the Pacific.

Guests were briefed by High Commissioner Mara on the positive implementation of Fiji’s Roadmap to Democracy and Sustainable Socio-Economic Development and the general objective of Government in laying a strong economic foundation that will sustain a truly democratic system by 2014 that will guarantee equal opportunities and rights for all its citizens.

The guests were treated to a sumptuous meal of lovo food supplemented with curry, puri and condiments. Entertainment was in the form of Fijian island music and a dance performance by Rabi Islanders residing in the UK.
