Minister Cokanasiga Meets UNSG Ban Ki-Moon

24 September 2011, New York: Fiji's Minister of Primary Industries, the Honorable Joketani Cokanasiga, was introduced to Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at the United Nations this morning.

Minister Cokanasiga has been in New York this week attending the High Level Meeting at the United Nations addressing desertification, land degradation and drought in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication.

In his capacity as Fiji's Acting Minister of Defense, Mr. Cokanasiga has also been attending to meetings this week in relation to Fiji's UN Peacekeeping roles in Iraq, South Sudan, Abiyei, Liberia and Timor-Leste.  At his meeting with the UN's Department of Political Affairs this week, discussions covered the increased number of Fiji peacekeeping personnel and extra responsibilities given to Fiji in Iraq this year by the UN.
