19th September 2011 Suva: Mrs. Saipora Mataikabara has been appointed the new Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation.
Mrs. Mataikabara was until her new appointment the Permanent Secretary for Industry and Trade. Mrs. Mataikabara replaces Mr Solo Mara who has been appointed Fiji's new High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Ireland and Ambassador to Denmark, Egypt, Israel, the Holy See and Germany.
Mrs. Mataikabara is no stranger to the Ministry having served here in 2008 as Director External Trade and Acting Deputy Secretary/Ambassador at Large.
Mrs. Mataikabara has held other senior Government positions including Chief Economic Planning Officer (Policy Analysis Unit, Prime Minister's Office), Director Development Services (Chief Economic Planning Officer) in the Ministry of Provincial Development, Director Biofuel (Ministry of Transport, Works & Energy), Director Water Reform (Ministry of Works, Transport and Public Utilities) etc.
Mrs. Mataikabara was also the Senior Economist (Domestic Economic Conditions) at the Reserve Bank of Fiji in 1998.
Mrs. Mataikabara holds a Master of Science (MSc) in International Trade and Finance from Lancaster University, United Kingdom, a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from Central Queensland University, and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) Double Majors Economics and Management from USP.
Mrs. Mataikabara assumed her new appointment as Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation from today.
