Minister Bole Receives Indian Counterpart

12th September 2011, Suva: The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation and Minister for Education, National Heritage, Culture and Arts, Youth and Sports, Labor, Industrial Relations and Employment the Honorable Filipe Bole today received India's Minister of State for External Affairs the Honorable Preneet Kaur.

Minister Kaur who is visiting Suva from the 11th – 13th September, 2011 paid a courtesy call on Minister Bole at his Office at the Ministry of Education HQ Suva.

During the meeting Minister Bole acknowledged the long standing and warm relations between the two countries. Relations between Fiji and India date back to 1879 and have deepened over the years. Minister Bole also expressed the Fiji Governments appreciation for Indian assistance especially in training and in its grant aid projects.

Fiji students studying in India now total more than 100 the majority on a long term scholarship under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme, pursuing undergraduate studies at centers such as New Delhi, Bangalore, Pune and Hyderabad.

In addition in training assistance, the Indian Government also provides annual grants approximately US$100,000 to $125,000 to Fiji to assist with socio-economic programmes and sustainable development projects. End
