15th August 2011, Suva: His Excellency Mr Huang Yong the People's Republic of China's new Ambassador to Fiji today paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation Ratu Inoke Kubuabola at the Minister's Office at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation, Bose Levu Vakaturaga Complex, 87 Queen Elizabeth Drive, Nasese.
In receiving the Ambassador Minister Kubuabola expressed Governments appreciation for the appointment and the warm relations Fiji and China enjoy. Minister Kubuabola expressed the hope that this close relationship can be further deepened during Ambassador Huang Yong's term in Fiji.
Ambassador Huang Yong replaces Dr Han Zhiqiang who completed his term in June this year.
Born in September 1959, Mr Yong joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as an attaché in the Department of Asian Affairs in 1987. Before coming to Fiji, Mr Yong held the post of Deputy Director General, General Office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, China. He has served in various global diplomatic missions for the People's Republic of China. This includes Brunei, Japan and Singapore.
Fiji and China established diplomatic relations on November 5, 1975.
