President Visits Leading ICT Company

Friday 12th August 2011, Shenzhen, China: His Excellency the President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau visited Huawei Technologies Co Ltd the leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider this morning.

Ratu Epeli toured the complex and was briefed by the Senior Vice President, Mr. Qu Wenchu on the company's operations.

The company is involved in more than 20 national level e-Government projects worldwide and has established strong partnership with leading international operators. Huawei (officially Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd.) is a multinational networking and telecommunications equipment company headquartered in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. It is the largest networking and telecommunications equipment supplier in China and the third-largest supplier of mobile telecommunications infrastructure equipment in the world (after Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks).

Huawei was founded in 1988 by Ren Zhengfei and is an employee-owned company. Its core activities are research and development (R&D), the production and marketing of telecommunications equipment, and the provision of customized network services to telecom carriers.

Huawei serves 31 of the world's 50 largest telecoms operators and invests around 10 per cent of its annual revenues in R&D.[6] It has R&D centers in Beijing, Chengdu, Nanjing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Wuhan and Xi'an, China; Ottawa, Canada; Bangalore, India; Jakarta, Indonesia; Mexico City, Mexico; Wijchen, Netherlands; Karachi and Lahore, Pakistan, Ferbane, Republic of Ireland; Moscow, Russia; Stockholm, Sweden; Istanbul, Turkey; and Dallas and Silicon Valley, United States.

A Memorandum of Understanding between Huawei Technologies Co; Ltd and the Fiji Government was signed in July 2011.The company is committed towards using Fiji as the Information Communication Technology hub of the South Pacific.END
