09 August 2011, Port Moresby: Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ratu Inoke Kubuabola held a bilateral meeting with Papua New Guinea’s new Prime Minister, Honourable Peter O’Neil. Minister Kubuabola conveyed Prime Minister Bainimarama’s congratulations to Prime Minister O’Neil on the latter’s appointment as Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister, and reiterated Fiji’s friendship and support to Papua New Guinea.
Prime Minister O’Neil thanked Minister Kubuabola and through him Prime Minister Bainimarama for his warm words of congratulations. He stated the support of his government for Fiji’s roadmap towards 2014 elections, and its readiness to engage in all bilateral and regional matters of importance for both Fiji and Papua New Guinea.
Prime Minister O’Neil was sworn in as Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea on 02 August 2011, and has in the past served as Minister for Finance and the Treasury, and as Minister for Works.
