25th May 2011, Jakarta, Indonesia: Fiji’s Ambassador to Indonesia His Excellency Ratu Tui Cavuilati attended the GEF Constituency meeting from 16-17 May 2011 in Jakarta, Indonesia on behalf of Fiji’s Director of Environment.
The purpose of the meeting was to prepare the Chairperson and the Deputy for our region for the forthcoming GEF Council to meet in Washington in the final week of May.
The Pacific region was represented by the following delegations: Cook Is, Fiji, FSM, Kiribati, Marshall Is, Samoa, Solomon Is, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.
Ambassador Cavuilati was able to update the meeting on status of GEF projects in Fiji and explore other possible areas of assistance and capacity building.
Fiji currently has available $7.15 million from the GEF for the following project areas:
• Climate Change - $2million• Biodiversity - $4.56 million• Land Degradation - $0.59 million
The National Focal Points for the GEF for Fiji is the Department of Environment (Operation) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Political).
