A Better Fiji through Excellence in Foreign Service

Media Release

30th March: Fiji is in the best position and the country’s objective is clear in taking the country forward, says Timor Leste Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Zacazias Albano da Costa.

He told local media that his country believes in the Fiji government and they support the changes taking place.

“We have been following the situation in Fiji for some time and we support the changes that are taking place,” Mr da Costa said.

“We know that changes take time especially structural changes and Fiji is in the best position.

“What is important is that the country’s objective is clear and it is certain that the people will go into election in 2014,” he said.

Mr da Costa said this has been his second visit to Fiji after participating at the Pacific Islands Forum meeting in Vanuatu last year. “Fiji has always been there for us which is the reason we are monitoring their situation closely,” he said.

“They have always supported us during our difficult times sending their troops and police as well as their officials who are working for the United Nation missions.

“Fiji is always receiving our medical students so it is only fair that we are here to show our support.”

Mr da Costa said they were genuinely committed to deepening their relations, co-operation and brotherhood with their Melanesian brothers.
