Fiji Rep Meets South African President and Assist Timor Leste

Fiji Rep Meets South African President and Assist Timor Leste18th September 2012: Fiji’s High Commissioner to South Africa Mr. Beniamino Salacakau met recently with South African President Mr.Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma. Mr. Salacakau has also been extending a helping hand to Timor Leste’s Diplomatic Representative to South Africa Mr. Celio Monitz.

President Zuma recently summoned all Heads of Diplomatic Missions in South Africa for a briefing. It was an informal gathering and an opportunity to raise issues of concern as well. The President used the occasion to talk about policy issues of the ANC Government.

Fiji’s Missions in South Africa has also been able to assist the Charge D’ Affaires, Timor Leste in preparation for their hosting of the Asia/Pacific Heads of Diplomatic Missions in South Africa meeting next month. “It is an honor indeed for the mission to play a supportive role in strengthening relations with our regional neighbors and friends in this part of the world,” explained Mr. Salacakau.

Meanwhile Fiji’s Missions in South Africa has been liaising with the Department of International Cooperation, (DIRCO) of the South African Government and the Ministers of International Cooperation in Angola and Botswana on a General Cooperation Agreement with the Governments of these countries.  Mr. Salacakau is hopeful these can be finalized for signature shortly.
