26 September 2012, New York: Minister for Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation Ratu Inoke Kubuabola today met the Deputy Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Secretariat, Ms Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba in the margins of the United Nations General Assembly General Debate in New York.
The meeting was held to follow-up on a number of issues that were discussed in Suva at the Commonwealth Secretariat’s visit to Fiji earlier this year and explore ways in which the Commonwealth Secretariat and the Fijian Government could cooperate with a view to assisting the implementation of Fiji’s Roadmap towards the 2014 elections.
Based on the positive outcome of the visit by the Commonwealth Secretariat earlier this year, Ms Masire-Mwamba stated the Commonwealth Secretariat is willing to assist the Fijian Government in providing the software for the Ministry of Finance’s debt management system and also in any area of its competency that the Government may require in preparation for elections.
Ms. Masire-Mwamba also reiterated the Commonwealth Secretariat’s desire to have another visit at the end of the constitution consultation process at the end of this year to ascertain what specific areas that they could assist Fiji on.
