A Better Fiji through Excellence in Foreign Service
4th October 2012: The trade promotional campaign in South Africa by our High Commission in Pretoria is beginning to bear fruit with serious enquiry now from a major duty free company there with a global presence in other countries of the world.
Recently our Representative in South Africa High Commissioner Beniamino Salacakau led his Team from our High Commission to take part in two Fairs as part of the Missions effort to promote Fiji products and Fiji as an investment and tourist destination. The Fairs were the Johannesburg Boat and Dive Show and the Pretoria Diplomatic Fair.As a result of those promotions Flemingo International a major international duty free retail company has now reached out to our High Commission with serious enquiries about Fiji products. Flemingo International is a Dubai, United Arab Emirates headquartered company whose core activities include owning and operating travel retail shopsacross Africa, Asia and Europe. The Company has about 20 shops in South Africa alone.
Representatives of the Company met recently with High Commissioner Beniamino Salacakau and his Team at our High Commission in Pretoria to discuss how they can promote Fiji products in their shops. The Company was particularly interested in Pure Fiji, Fiji Water, varieties of Fiji food products etc.
Speaking about this development High Commissioner Salacakau explained:
“As a result of our continuing public outreach and participation in the fairs and shows, a representative from Flemingo Duty Free came to talk to us about what they can present in their shops. This is a big duty free company that has outlets in many countries apart from the 20 or so shops in South Africa. The Fiji Mission, after extolling the virtues of Fiji products, presented the representative with samples including Fiji Water and Pure Fiji.”
“They …wish to have in their shops Fiji Water, Pure Fiji Products and a variety of food products. Since their headquarters is in Dubai they expect to source Fiji Water from the distributor there. As far as the other products are concerned, communications are in progress on how these can be sourced for the South African market. The Fiji Mission is hopeful that this will progress to substantive results in the near future.”END.
