Diplomatic Community prepares for Mini-Olympics

1st November 2012: Members of the Diplomatic Corp, and international and regional organisations based in Fiji are gearing up to take part in the premier event of their social calendar this year which is the Mini Olympics. Once a year Diplomatic Missions together with international and regional organisations based in Suva gather together for a family fun day called the Mini Olympics. The purpose of the event is to foster good relationships and mutual understanding in the diplomatic community in Fiji.

The Mini Olympics comprises friendly competition by staff and families of Diplomatic Missions and international and regional organisations in such sports as tug of war, egg relay, water balloon, 3-legged race, sack race, mixed netball, pani, mixed soccer, mixed touch rugby, mixed volleyball, coconut husking, scraping & squeezing, vaqiqimoli and basket weaving. Organization of the event is rotated amongst the Diplomatic Missions.

This year Fiji through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation will be hosting the Mini Olympics on Saturday 17th November at the Suva Grammar School Grounds in Nasese from 9am to 4pm with the Reception to be held at the Suva Bowling Club from 6pm to 8pm the same day.

Various organisations such as Tosa Busan, Carpenters Fiji Ltd, BSP, JAD International, Air Freight Logistics, United Apparel, and Flour Mills of Fiji are sponsoring the Mini Olympics with financial and/or gifts in kind. Today BSP Treasurer Bharat Chovhan and Davend Khanna visited the Ministry and handed over funds together with balls and gifts for the Mini Olympics.

The Ministry kindly acknowledges all the sponsorship received to date which will contribute to the success of this important day in the social calendar of our Diplomatic Community.
