Prime Minister expresses Gratitude

PM_express_gratitude9th July 2012: Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has expressed his gratitude to all former Fijians residing overseas for their continued assistance towards those that were affected from the floods that hit parts of the country this year.

The head of Government asked Fiji’s Ambassador to the United States of America, Mr Winston Thompson, to convey his message of gratitude to all those who had provided assistance to the Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund.

He made these remarks as Mr Thompson handed a draft of FJD $212,765.95 (USD $120,958.88) that was collected through the initiative of the Fiji mission in New York and the Embassy in Washington.

“We had a donation drive notice on our website to either assist directly or to send money to our bank account. This amount is the result of those donating through the bank account,” Mr Thompson said.

“These are individuals who were moved by the plight of the people in Fiji,” he said.

The Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations also donated USD$100,000 to the fund.

Some of the organisations that have donated include the Flood Relief Drive, Las Vegas, the Fiji Association, Brampton, Canada, Fiji Social Cultural Association, California, Sri Sanatan Dharam Satsang Ramayan Mandli, Canada, Sanatan Dharam Pratinidhi Sabha of USA and Sacramento and Skyfleet, California.

Individuals that have donated include Ms Reshmi Kumar of California, Sawesh and Reselyn Kumar of Washington, VJR Singh and Vinay Singh of California and Keshwa and Phyllis Nand Family Trust of San Francisco.
