A Better Fiji through Excellence in Foreign Service
9th July 2012: An African delegate to the International Organisation for Standardisation meeting held from 14th – 18th May 2012 at the Sofitel hotel, Denarau has contacted Fiji’s High Commission in Pretoria South Africa to express his gratitude for a very enjoyable visit to Fiji.
In his email to the High Commission the Delegate said:
“I really enjoyed my stay in Fiji and everything went smooth with my trip to Fiji and back home.
All arrangements was in place and we really appreciated all the efforts of the Fijian people (and especially government officials) to make us feel very welcome and at ease. We had a driver at our disposal who took us to the conference venue and back to our hotel daily and he was always very friendly and helpful.
Our stay was very brief to experience the full culture of Fiji, but the bit that we experienced was very nice and very positive and I would definitely want to return to Fiji (perhaps for a holiday in the future).
As a compliment for the friendliness of the people in Fiji – we walked from our hotel to a nearby restaurant on the one evening and unfortunately became lost. It was just before 7pm and the last of the shops were closing. We managed to talk to a shop owner just before he closed his shop to ask for directions to the restaurant. Upon realizing that we were lost, he not only provided us with directions to the restaurant, but also offered to drop us off at the restaurant as we managed to walk in the opposite direction of the restaurant. We were really amazed by the hospitality shown to us and both myself and my colleague left Fiji with a positive experience (and lots of gifts for people at home).
I would also like to thank you for your intervention and for ensuring that my arrival in Fiji went smoothly. I really appreciate all your efforts.”
Meanwhile the High Commissioner Beniamino Salacakau and Mrs Salacakau played hosts to the Fiji under 20 rugby Team that played at the Junior World Cup Tournament in Cape Town recently.
The High Commissioner has also been reaching out to other Heads of Missions stationed in South Africa. He recently hosted the largest gathering to date of Heads of Missions from the Asia/Pacific Region. Following this he had a successful meeting with the British High Commissioner to South Africa Dr Nicola Brewer, where he explained thePeoples Charter for Change, Peace and Progress and the Strategic Framework for Change.
