A Better Fiji through Excellence in Foreign Service
April 22, 2013: The United States of America will support Fiji’s process to form a new constitution and hold democratic elections in 2014.
USA Bureau of East Asia and Pacific Affairs deputy assistant secretary Edgard Kagan communicated this to Fiji’s Ambassador to the USA, Mr Winston Thompson following a recent meeting between the two.
“The US Government stands ready to provide further assistance on jointly identified areas in which they have expertise to offer to assist Fiji return to democracy,” Mr Kagan told Ambassador Thompson.
Ambassador Thomson has been consistent in his updates to government officials in the USA on the progress made by Fiji in its electoral process including the recent draft constitution feedback forums.
Recently the Government of Papua New Guinea through its Prime Minister, Honorable Peter O’Neill, pledged Kina50million (FJD$40million) to assist Fiji’s electoral process.
