April 27, 2013: The Melanesian Spearhead Group’s Eminent Persons Group led by former Ambassador Kaliopate Tavola arrived in Fiji today to conduct national consultations with various stakeholders.
Other members of the group comprise distinguished and highly respected individuals from MSG countries. They include the former Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Hon Manasseh Sogovare, Hon. Joe Natuman of Vanuatu, Mr. Leonard Louma of PNG and President of the Front de Liberation Nationale Kanak et Socialiste (FLNKS) Hon Roch Wamytan.
The main objective of this exercise is to Review the performance of the MSG for the past 25 years and formulate a Vision and a Roadmap for the next 25 years. The EPG Report is expected to be tabled at the 19th MSG Leaders Summit in June in Noumea during which the 25th Anniversary of the MSG will be celebrated.
National consultations will be underway from Monday 29 April to Friday 3 May commencing with a courtesy call to the office of the Prime Minister and Chairman of the Melanesian Spearhead Group.
The Eminent Persons Group will meet with State officials, civil society, Non-Governmental organizations, academia, development partners and different interest groups during their consultations.
