Fiji UK Mission rally for Team Fiji support

sm15th June, 2012: Fiji's High Commissioner to UK, Mr Solo Mara and his staff have committed to assisting Team Fiji while they are in London, FASANOC confirms.

FASANOC chief executive Lorraine Mar said the High Commission is rallying the support of the Fijian Community in the UK and Europe to fundraise towards a “Welcome Pack” of essential items for the team and also to have resources available that would provide them with an opportunity after their competitions, to enjoy a cultural experience after having completed their Olympic sporting experience.

Members of the Fijian Community in the UK will also be invited to welcome Team Fiji at the Official Flag Raising Ceremony in the Olympic Games Village which is being held on Sunday July 22, 2012.

Meanwhile, eight athletes have qualified for the London Olympics in Leslie Copeland (Athletics), Robert Elder(Archery), Josateki Naulu(Judo), Glenn Kable (Shooting), Douglas Miller and Matalita Buadromoi (Swimming) and Manueli Tulo and Maria Liku (Weightlifting).

Judoka Sisilia Rasoki and women runners Danielle Alakija and Miriama Senokonoko are yet to qualify. Rasoki is hoping for a Tripartite Commission Invitational Spot while the lady runners are vying for the vacant best female athlete spot.
