Fijian diplomat accredited at UN Vienna

December 17, 2014 -Fiji’s Ambassador to the United Nations Office in Switzerland Nazhat Shameem Khan presented her credentials as Fiji's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Vienna and the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime, becoming Fiji's first Ambassador to be accredited formally to Vienna.

When presenting her credentials to Director-General Yury Fedotov, Ambassador Khan highlighted some of the important areas of progress made in Fiji in relation to anti-corruption and anti-trafficking.
DG Fedotov and Ambassador Khan also discussed the important relationship between anti-terrorism laws and human rights, and the work that UNODC can do within its mandate on this issue.

DG Fedotov advised Ambassador Khan of important upcoming events on the UNODC calendar including the 2015 Crimes Congress to be held in Doha, Qatar, and the Drug Commission in March 2015, which will prepare for the UN Special Session of the General Assembly on Drugs.

They also discussed follow-up matters from his visit to Fiji, which he said was a fruitful visit, and he offered areas of cooperation that UNODC could work on with Fiji.

While in Vienna, Ambassador Khan also met with technical officials working on the UN Convention Against Corruption, specialists in trafficking in persons law, as well as the Fijian community in Vienna.
