Fiji and Netherlands discuss relations



Suva, Fiji- The non-resident Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands’ to Fiji, His Excellency Mr. Robert Willem Zaagman paid a courtesy visit to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Ratu Inoke Kubuabola in Suva today. 


Minister Kubuabola welcomed Ambassador Zaagman who was very pleased to be in a friendly and beautiful country of Fiji. 


During their meeting, Minister Kubuabola and Ambassador Zaagman discussed various ways in which the two countries could work towards enhancing their bilateral relations and cooperation on the UN matters.


Ambassador Zaagman acknowledged that Fiji and the Kingdom of the Netherlands were vulnerable to the rising sea levels caused by climate change and addressing the root causes of climate change was a matter of greatest urgency. Minister Kubuabola complemented by stating that Fiji will be a strong voice for the small island developing states in the upcoming Paris Summit.


Minister Kubuabola was also pleased to note the proposed delegation from the Netherlands and looks forward to welcoming them to the 3rd PIDF Summit next month.


Ambassador Zaagman reassured his support to strengthening bilateral relations with Fiji and cooperation in areas of mutual interest. Fiji and the Kingdom of the Netherlands had established formal diplomatic relations in March 1972.
