A Better Fiji through Excellence in Foreign Service
Congratulatory Message to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the occasion of Her Diamond Jubilee
On this historic occasion, I have the honor to extend on behalf of all Fijians in paying tribute on your diamond jubilee celebrations; a momentous occasion not only celebrated in the United Kingdom but around the Commonwealth.
Fiji’s relations with Great Britain and the crown spans more then 138 years of friendly relations since these islands was ceded to your Great Grandmother Queen Victoria, the only other monarch to have celebrated a diamond jubilee. While the historical links of our two countries pre-date Fiji’s independence, Fijians continue to demonstrate a high regard for the United Kingdom and have deep affection and respect for the British Royal family.
I also extend the well wishes of my government and countrymen for your good personal health, happiness and the continued progress and prosperity of the people of the United Kingdom. We also wish the Duke of Edinburgh a speedy recovery from his ill health.
I am confident that the long standing cordial and friendly relations, so happily maintained between our two countries and its peoples, will continue to grow stronger and healthier in the years to come.
Congratulations once again Your Majesty on the celebration of this momentous occasion.
