Suva, March 2, 2016- The Fijian Government today received $100,000 from the Kiribati Government to help with relief efforts in the wake of severe Tropical Cyclone Winston.
Foreign Affairs Minister Ratu Inoke Kubuabola received the monetary assistance from Kiribati High Commissioner Reteta Rimon who presented it on behalf of her President Anote Tong and the people of Kiribati.
The donation would be directed to the Prime Minister's National Disaster Relief and Rehabilitation account to help those affected by the cyclone.
High Commissioner Rimon said the people of Kiribati were saddened given that the magnitude of the destruction of TC Winston was massive.
She conveyed President Tong and the people of Kiribati's condolences to the people of Fiji who lost their loved ones from the wrath of the cyclone.
Minister Kubuabola said the people of Fiji were grateful and humbled by the gratitude expressed by their neighbours like Kiribati.
He said the people of Fiji would utilise the assistance to rehabilitate given the status of devastation that the cyclone left them in.
Minister Kubuabola said the Government was grateful with all the assistance coming in from the international community.
