A Better Fiji through Excellence in Foreign Service
Suva, May 12, 2016: Minister for Foreign Affairs Ratu Inoke Kubuabola received the new Papua New Guinea High Commissioner Lucy Bogari after presenting her credentials at Government House.
She thanked Minister Kubuabola for the warm Fijian welcome and said she looked forward to her assignment in Fiji. She expressed her sympathy and condolences for victims of Tropical Cyclone Winston, and said the PNG Government was committed to realising its pledges of support for rehabilitation efforts.
She said the Fiji-PNG relationship was ‘symbiotic’ and both countries could always learn from each other. In the case of the recent media coverage related to the appointment of the new director-general for the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG), she said the PNG Government was fully supportive of Ambassador Amena Yauvoli’s credentials but had questions about the procedure for his appointment.
Minister Kubuabola said Fiji looked up to PNG, as a country that had always stood by Fiji’s side in difficult circumstances. He said any perceived differences could always be sorted out by dialogue.
