Ambassador Prakash presents credentials to Emir of Qatar

Fiji’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Kamlesh Prakash last week presented his credentials to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar at the Emiri Diwan, Qatar’s seat of government.


Ambassador Prakash conveyed the warm greetings of His Excellency President Major General (Retd) Jioji Konrote to the State of Qatar.


He also expressed best wishes for the Qatari people and reaffirmed Fiji’s desire to strengthen the existing relations between the two countries.


Ambassador Prakash reiterated the Fijian Government’s gratitude to the State of Qatar for their influential support in pursuing the release of the 45 Fijian peace keepers taken hostage by the Al Nusra Front while serving in the Golan Heights.


Ambassador Prakash also shared the efforts of the Fijian government in its recovery and rehabilitation works in the aftermath of its most destructive Tropical Cyclone Winston and sought assistance from the State of Qatar.


Ambassador Prakash also presented his credentials to the Assistant Minister for 
Foreign Affairs H.E. Sultan Bin Saad Al Meraikhi.
 Discussions centered on investment prospects in Fiji and employment opportunities for Fiji nationals in Qatar, noting that a small number of Fiji nationals worked in Qatar mainly in the aviation sector and there was a possibility to grow the numbers especially in the hospitality and tourism sector as Qatar gears to host the FIFA Soccer World Cup in 2022.


Ambassador Prakash was accompanied by his wife Mrs. Mala Prakash and is the second non-resident Ambassador to Qatar since a diplomatic mission was established in the region in 2012. 


Formal diplomatic relations between Fiji and the State of Qatar was established on 20th October 2010.
