Minister for Foreign Affairs Ratu Inoke Kubuabola held bilateral talks with the Ethiopian State Minister for Political Affairs Ambassador Taye Atske-Selassie in Addis Ababa.
Minister Kubuabola acknowledged Ethiopia’s assistance in the setting up of Fiji’s Mission in Addis Ababa.
Minister Atske-selassie stated that his Government welcomed the established of Fiji’s mission in Addis Ababa and added that Ethiopia was the ‘Gateway to Africa’ and Fiji’s presence in Ethiopia, will enable both countries to partner bilaterally and also multilaterally in numerous areas of common and beneficial interest.
Minister Atske-selassie added that Ethiopia recognized the importance of the Pacific region and he was pleased to see Fiji’s good work in the area of Peacekeeping in the region and the middle-east. He also praised Fiji’s climate change initiatives and advised that Ethiopia was also suffering the effects of climate change.
The meeting provided an opportunity for Minister Kubuabola to formally introduce Ambassador Tikoitoga to the State Minister. Minister Atske-Selassie stated that he was pleased to have a seasoned Military Officer and Administer and hoped that Ambassador Tikoitoga would share his vast experiences and knowledge in order to strengthen relations.
The Ministers also discussed Fiji’s bid for Presidency for the United Nations General Assembly.
