In thanking the Fijian Community for the warm and friendly welcome, Prime Minister Rabuka said the event made him feel at home.
PM Rabuka also highlighted that the main reason he was in the Kingdom of Tonga was to attend the 53rd Pacific Islands Forum meeting, “These meetings are usually subjected to scrutiny, very few comment on what we achieved, only because the results of the visit are not immediately seen,” he said.
“The decisions that are made, the talks that we have with various leaders take time to materialize.”
“So all these meetings are important because they affect the nations of the region and the people of the region.”
PM Rabuka also added that he would promote the concept of the Pacific being seen as an ocean of peace, or region of peace during the PIFS meeting.
Prime Minister Rabuka also held a talanoa session with the diaspora and will raise issues faced by the community during the PIFS meeting.
With the theme, “Transformative Resilient Pasifiki: Build Better Now”: The meeting will take place from the 26th to the 30th of August.
