Fiji is represented at the Indonesian Arts and Culture Scholarship (IACS) Program hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.
IACS program is organised for the participants from abroad for the duration of two months, June to August this year.
It provides an opportunity for the participants to study Indonesian Arts and Culture in art centers located in Jakarta, Bali, West Sumatera, East Kalimantan and East Java.
Fiji is among the 45 awardees, who were successful applicants from 34 countries selected for the IACS program. Ms Marosi Nakanacagi and Ms Kalara Valeicili are pleased to represent Fiji at this program. Over the next eight weeks, Ms Nakanacagi will be based in Jakarta while Ms Valeicili will be in Bali.
The two young women were selected by the organising committee in consideration of their motivation, interests and on regional dispersion.
Participants from Asia, Africa, Europe and the Pacific, including Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands are also part of the program.
Introduced in 2003, the program provides a non-degree scholarship for youths with the objective of promoting and encouraging better understanding of Indonesian arts and culture.
It also strengthens mutual understanding, friendship and people-to-people interaction and creates future friends of Indonesia.
Following the completion of the program, all the participants will regroup in West Sumatra for the official closing ceremony to showcase their skills acquired through the IACS program.
The program was officially opened by the Honourable Minister for Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, H.E Ibu Retno Marsudi on 5 June at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia.
In attendance at the ceremony were members of the diplomatic corps in Jakarta, representing the respective countries of participants.
The Fiji Embassy was represented by the Second Secretary, Ms Vasiti Cirikiyasawa. IACS is held annually with the exception in 2020 due to COVID-19 and in 2021 and 2022, the program was held virtually.
