Israel has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthen development cooperation with Fiji, as conveyed to Prime Minister Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka during a meeting with the Ambassador of Israel to Fiji and the Pacific H.E Roi Rosenblit.
Prime Minister Rabuka reiterated Fiji’s commitment to strengthen mutual relations with Israel and also thanked the Ambassador for the discussions they had on potential areas of collaboration.
In its recent labour mobility program, Israel will assist 13 students from the Navuso Agricultural Technical Institute undertake 10 months’ work and capacity building opportunity in Israel.
The provision of internship programme, ‘Learning by doing’ will enable the Fijian students to earn salaries and acquire the best training skills, while using latest technologies in Israel.
Ambassador Rosenblit said his nation welcomes the establishment of Fiji’s Embassy in Israel to further advance our cooperation.
He also thanked Prime Minister Rabuka for his visionary leadership and commitment to the region. With Fiji’s first direct chartered flight by Fiji Airways to Israel anticipated to take place this September for the historic Feast of Tabernacles, the Ambassador said Israel is also keen to explore investment and business prospects with Fiji in the future, particularly in the agricultural sector.
Fiji-Israel cooperation will be commemorated in Suva for the first time today, to recognise the longstanding bilateral relations established between the two nations, since 1970.
Fiji’s long-standing commitment to UN peacekeeping operations in the Middle East through the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Multinational Force and Observers (MFO), and the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF), speaks to the value Fiji places in the peace and stability of Israel and the wider Middle East region.
