The Indonesian Government looks forward to further strengthen development cooperation with Fiji based on its Pacific Elevation Strategy in vital sectors such as economy, trade and tourism, education, health, agriculture, fisheries and forestry.
The Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr Lesi Korovavala, thanked the Government of Indonesia for yet another extension of their footprint in Fiji through the successful opening of a new 16 classrooms at the Queen Victoria School (QVS), fully funded by the Government of Indonesia, at the value of FJD $2.9 million. The project is part of the Indonesian Government gracious contribution towards Fiji’s Adopt-a-School program following the devastation of TC Winston.
The construction were completed earlier this year with the Minister for Education, Hon. Aseri Radrodro, officiated at the opening ceremony held on 03 August 2023. A senior Government delegation led by Indonesia’s Director General Information and Public Diplomacy, H.E. Teuku Faizasyah, were also present in Fiji to witness the occasion.
Following the opening ceremony in QVS, Fiji’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Indonesian Government delegation organized a Fiji-Indonesia roundtable discussions at the Grand Pacific Hotel (GPH). The purpose of the roundtable discussions is for all the identified stakeholders from both countries to discuss existing areas of cooperation and identify ways to improve these cooperation and new opportunities moving forward.
Dr Korovavala acknowledged the Indonesian Government and the various stakeholders for their participation in the first ever roundtable discussions which included Ministry for Agriculture, Ministry for Fisheries and Forestry, Ministry for Finance, Ministry for Education, Ministry for Tourism and Ministry for Health. The discussions was chaired by Fiji’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Mr Amena Yauvoli, and was well attended by representatives from Government agencies in both countries.
The Government of the Republic of Fiji and Indonesia have maintained this longstanding relations since the establishment of our bilateral relations in 1974. It has strengthened over the years through our shared collaboration in various areas of mutual interest ranging from agriculture, fisheries, forestry, health, tourism and education sector.
