11 October, 2023 – With a sense of gratitude, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is relieved that a chartered Fiji Airways flight that departed from Ben Gurion Airport earlier today, is successfully bringing 255 Fijians back to their homeland.
Among the passengers were Fiji’s AICAT (Agricultural Institutes of the Center for Agricultural Technology) students who were pursuing studies in agriculture in Israel, the 200 Fijians who had journeyed to Jerusalem to partake in the Feast of Tabernacles as well as a group of Pacific Islanders.
Prime Minister Rabuka extends his sincere appreciation to all parties involved in making this mission a success. “In these trying times, it is important to express our sympathy for all those affected by the recent conflict between Israel and Hamas. Our thoughts are with the people of the region, and we hope for a swift and lasting resolution that brings peace and stability to all,” Prime Minister Rabuka said.
The Prime Minister acknowledges the tireless efforts of the Fiji Airways crew and Incident Team who worked diligently to navigate the complex risks and options associated with planning this crucial flight. “Their dedication and expertise have made this mission possible and have reunited our citizens with their families and loved ones. This mission is a historic one for the Fijian Government, as it represents our very first rescue operation.”
“The successful repatriation of our citizens is a testament to the commitment and determination of our nation to safeguard the well-being of all Fijians, no matter where they are in the world.” The Prime Minister also extended his gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their coordination and arrangements with our international allies.
“This collaboration and support from our friends and partners have been instrumental in ensuring the safe return of our citizens.”
The Prime Minister would also like to express his heartfelt thanks to all those who offered their prayers, well-wishes, and support during this mission.
“The collective strength of our nation in times of need is a source of great pride and unity. The safe return of these Fijians is a testament to the resilience of our nation, and the Fijian spirit that binds us together. We will continue to work diligently to ensure the well-being and safety of all Fijians, both at home and abroad.” PC: Kelepi Abariga
