In celebration of the United Nations Day, His Excellency the President, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere and Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka attended the UN Day reception held at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva this evening.
Speaking on behalf of the Fiji Government, Acting Chief of Protocol Rosa Dalituicama said the United Nations (UN) continues to play a pivotal role in encouraging Fiji’s progress towards the 2030 Agenda.
“While it has helped to ensure its active engagement as a member of the global community, Fiji looks to take bold and transformative steps with the United Nations to shift the world onto a sustainable and resilient path,” Ms. Dalituicama said.
“For all of our independent 53 years, the United Nations has touched all aspects of our lives through the various programs it has implemented nationally and, in the region,” Ms. Dalituicama added.
UN Resident Coordinator, Dirk Wagener said its UN agencies continues to connect Pacific member states into multilateral processes ensuring Pacific priorities are voiced and acted upon on the global stage. “As the UN, we recognize and value the role of Pacific regional organisations in delivering for the region and are strengthening our collaborations and partnerships,” Mr. Wagener said.
The United Nations Day marks the anniversary of the entry of the 1945 UN Charter. UN Day, celebrated every year, offers the opportunity to amplify and reaffirm the purposes and principles of the UN Charter that have guided the UN for the past 78 years.
