FIJI-MALAYSIA TO ADVANCE DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION

The diplomatic cooperation between Fiji and the United Kingdom (UK) continues to escalate to greater heights with agreement on a new strategic communications partnership between the two nations.
This was highlighted during a courtesy visit paid by the Deputy British High Commissioner in Fiji, Her Excellency Nicola Noble and UK Government officials to the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr Lesikimacuata Korovavala.
The meeting reflected on the critical role of strategic communications to tackle common challenges facing Fiji and the UK in the public communication space. This new area of bilateral cooperation builds on existing warm relations between the two nations, with historical and cultural ties.
Dr Korovavala welcomed the UK delegation, which included communications experts visiting from London. He acknowledged the British Government’s unwavering support to Fiji over the years, through assistance ranging from development, security, and education to name a few.
He thanked the UK Government for this new area of support through strategic communication capacity building and professional development training opportunities.
Dr Korovavala said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to work closely with the British High Commission to further advance communications cooperation and areas that are aligned with Fiji’s national development priorities.
This partnership underscores the importance of relations and opportunities that accrue from them to collaborate for the mutual benefit of both nations.
Deputy High Commissioner Noble said: “The UK is proud to have formed a strategic communication partnership with Fiji. The way in which citizens communicate is evolving faster than ever before and strategic communications has a huge role to play in helping all governments tackle the biggest challenges we face. By delivering training, sharing insights and working together on communications strategies, we will continue to strengthen this important partnership.”
