Dubai, 1 Dec, 2023 – The Fijian diaspora in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) extended a warm and culturally rich welcome to Prime Minister Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka at a traditional ceremony hosted at the Mercure Hotel in Dubai on Wednesday, 30th November.
This gathering marked a momentous occasion, fostering cultural unity and forging stronger connections within the thriving Fijian diaspora in the UAE.
Fiji’s Ambassador to the UAE His Excellency Naipote Katonitabua conveyed the community’s eagerness in extending a heartfelt welcome to Prime Minister Rabuka.
Prime Minister Rabuka expressed his pride in the growing number of Fijian nationals who now live and work in the UAE and have chosen the UAE as their second home.
He urged those present to continue respecting the leaders and citizens of the host country. A highlight of the event was the jersey presentation ceremony for the Desert Fijians Rugby Team. The team will debut as the first-ever delegation of Fijian nationals participating in the annual Emirates Dubai 7s which was incepted in 1970.
Also present at last night’s gathering was the Minister for Women, Lynda Tabuya; Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Inia Seruiratu; Assistant Minister for Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways Fiji Tomasi Tuinabuna, and other Permanent Secretaries.
Beyond strengthening the bonds between the Fijian Community and the UAE, Prime Minister Rabuka’s visit also served to spotlight the positive contributions and achievements of Fijian nationals in their adopted second home.
