Our nations can achieve greater impact through a united front in the face of evolving geopolitics and security challenges.
This was the message delivered by the Prime Minister, Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka while participating in a plenary discussion in Brussels last week, focusing on the geopolitical landscape and emerging security challenges across the globe.
The plenary session at the 3rd EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum provided a platform for collaborative dialogue and strategic cooperation among member nations.
In his contribution, Prime Minister Rabuka drew attention to the recent drug bust incident in Fiji where the police seized about five tonnes of methamphetamine in Nadi, labelling it a serious concern for our nation. In this regard, he highlighted the need for the power houses of the world to commit to fostering regional stability and security.
“By working closely with regional and international power houses, we can implement comprehensive measures to promote security and stability,” said Prime Minister Rabuka.
He also highlighted that the Pacific aims to be a region free from militarisation and conflict.
Discussions during the session also focused on security challenges, ranging from cyber threats to maritime security issues and geopolitical shifts impacting the Indo-Pacific.
The participants reaffirmed their commitment to upholding international norms, promoting the rule of law, and ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific.
The session concluded with a shared vision for continued collaboration on matters of mutual interest.
