The Government of Fiji remains steadfast in its commitment to the empowerment of women and girls in Fiji, in ensuring that women’s needs and priorities are at the forefront of our every development effort by prioritizing women’s economic empowerment.
This message was conveyed by the Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Lenora Qereqeretabua while speaking as the chief guest at the International Women’s Day [IWD] celebrations jointly organized by European Union (EU) and United States (U.S).
In her remarks, Hon. Qereqeretabua spoke on the key initiatives undertaken by the Government to empower women to help them reach to their greatest potentials.
The Assistant Minister took the opportunity to commend the work of the EU and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in empowering women through various programs at both national and community levels.
EU Ambassador to Fiji, Her Excellency Barbara Plinkert thanked the Assistant Minister for representing the Government of Fiji at this occasion and reaffirmed EU’s commitment to women empowerment in Fiji, Pacific and beyond.
The IWD celebrations is an opportunity to recognise the important role of women around the world and highlight their shared challenges and great achievements.
