KEY OUTCOMES OF THE VISIT
- Official visit to Fiji by the Prime Minister of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea (Papua New Guinea) Thursday May 18, 2023.
- This is the first Official visit for Fiji and the Coalition Government to receive since assuming office.
- Our Pacific relations are important especially in discussing issues that are relevant for the region given the increase in geopolitical and geostrategic competition. It is therefore important that Pacific countries are united and in solidarity on the issues that concern them and more importantly is the cultural ties that binds the region together through our land and the ocean.
- Major Outcomes of the Visit:
- Reopening of Fiji’s mission in PNG and commitment from PNG in providing a piece of land and FJD$15m for Fiji to build its Chancery.
- Strengthened bilateral relations and cooperation in defence, sports, police, public service and business.
- PNG will relook at signing the MSG Trade Agreement (Fiji and Vanuatu has signed- awaiting PNG and Solomon Islands)
