The High Commission was represented at the Commonwealth Law Ministers Meeting held in Zanzibar, Tanzania, from 4th to 8th March, 2024. Key discussions focused on utilizing technology ethically to improve access to justice, particularly discussing and addressing challenges such as cybercrime. The Commonwealth Secretary-General highlighted the urgency of closing the access to justice gap, which impacts two-thirds of the world’s population, emphasizing that equal access to justice is essential for peace, security, and development.
During the meeting, Fiji expressed our interest in hosting the next Commonwealth Law Ministers Meeting in late 2025 or early 2026. Fiji’s delegation was led by the Solicitor General Mr. Ropate Green and supported by Deputy State Solicitor Ms. Ofa Lemaki and First Secretary, Ms. Paulini Cakacaka.
The outcomes of the meeting will shape the agenda for the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa later this year.
