His Excellency, the President Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote received the credentials from the new Resident Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Kawakami Fumihiro at the State House.
Before his current appointment, Mr Fumihiro was the Consul-General at the Consulate General of Japan in Shenyang, which is the capital and largest city of China’s Northeast Liaoning Province.
In his diplomatic role, Mr Fumihiro was also a Counsellor to the Embassy of Japan in China and a Senior Director for City Diplomacy at the Office of Governor for Policy Planning for the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
The Ambassador graduated from the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, in the Department of Chinese Language before working at the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Japan and Fiji since 1970 have continued to share cordial relations through promotion of cooperation in areas of socioeconomic and people-to-people relations between the two countries.
