On Thursday 4 February, the President of the Republic of Indonesia, President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo received the Letter of Credence from the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Fiji to the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Amenatave Vakasavuwaqa Yauvoli at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta.
The ceremony took place in the Credential Room of the Merdeka Palace marking the commencement of Ambassador Yauvoli’s ambassadorial duties under the mandate of the Republic of Fiji to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries.
In his interview with the Presidential Secretariat Media team, Ambassador Yauvoli shared his experiences during his visits to several regions in Indonesia. “This is not my first time in Indonesia. I have visited Semarang, Bandung, Bali and other places. Indonesia is extremely beautiful (Indonesia Hebat) and the people are kind-hearted,” he said.
The two countries have enjoyed a strong bilateral relationship for the past three decades, and have supported each other in many regional and international forums. Their friendship continuous to grow and is further strengthened by various cooperation. Most recently, the two countries signed two grant agreements the first in supporting Fiji’s education sector and the second on humanitarian assistance supporting Fiji’s public health capacity in fighting against Covid19. The Embassy also has an Honorary Consul facility in Surabaya City (second biggest city), which was opened in 2019 by the then Lady Mayor Tri Rishmaharini, who is now the seating Minister of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.
Jokowi also received letters of credentials from six other new ambassadors extraordinary and plenipotentiary respectively from Japan, India, Czech Republic, Bangladesh, Romania and Pakistan.
During the ceremony, Jokowi and the seven ambassadors adhered to the established health protocols in wearing of masks and maintaining physical distance from one another.
On the occasion, Jokowi was accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi. The seven ambassadors extraordinary and plenipotentiary were accompanied by their respective wives.
