Prime Minister Honourable Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama this afternoon signed the condolence book for the late Right Honourable Grand Chief Sir Michael Thomas Somare.
The condolence book was opened at the Papua New Guinea High Commission in Suva, providing an opportunity for official representatives of the Government of Fiji, Diplomatic Corps, Regional and International Organisations to pay their respects and tribute to the Founding Father and first Prime Minister of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, the Right Honourable Grand Chief Sir Michael Thomas Somare.
The condolence book is open for signing from 09 -11 March 2021 and from 15 -19 March 2021.
The PNG High Commission in Suva together with the Fijian Ministry of Foreign Affairs have collaboratively drawn up a programme for a Memorial Service this Friday in honour of the Late Grand Chief Sir Michael Thomas Somare.
In expressing his condolence Prime Minister Bainimarama said, “Fiji has lost a dear friend with the passing of former Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare. He was more than PNG’s founding father, his legacy as an architect of regional unity lives on in the hearts of all Pacific people. I deeply regret that I cannot be in PNG to pay my respects.”
