Fijian Prime Minister, Hon. Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama conveyed his appreciation to New Zealand Prime Minister Rt Hon. Jacinda Ardern for New Zealand’s timely support to Fiji.
In a telephone conversation today with his counterpart, Prime Minister Bainimarama thanked Prime Minister Ardern and the people of New Zealand for standing in solidarity with Fiji.
Prime Minister Bainimarama said this remarkable assistance from New Zealand will be of great importance in assisting Fiji’s current response and recovery measures.
Further adding that this assistance demonstrates New Zealand’s commitment to support its Pacific Vuvale at this time of great need and this gesture of kindness and generosity will always remain in the hearts of every Fijian.
PM Bainimarama said this partnership attest to unbreakable bond of friendship and bilateral relations between Fiji and New Zealand that continues to strengthen.
The New Zealand Government has offered Fiji a grant contribution of NZ$40m (approx.FJ$60m) in budget support in response to the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
New Zealand is also supporting Fiji in its efforts to access safe and effective vaccines and in doing so, New Zealand will contribute vaccine support package of 500,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine and grant funding of NZ$2 million support for vaccine delivery.
