Fiji will join its international and regional development partners at the 2nd P4G Summit, ‘Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030,’ hosted by the Government of the Republic of Korea, from May 30-31, 2021.
The theme of the virtual summit is “Inclusive Green Recovery towards Carbon Neutrality,” as P4G is a global initiative which, aspires to become the world’s leading multilateral forum for developing public-private partnerships to advance Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030 and the Paris Climate Agreement.
At the Leaders Session, Honourable Prime Minister Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama will join the global leaders from respective governments, international organisations, businesses, and civil societies worldwide with a collective resolve to, “Build Back Better and Greener.” Through this Summit, Fiji affirms its commitment to enhance engagement opportunities for shared goals on climate change and SDGs.
The overarching aim of the Summit is enhancing international solidarity and accelerating efforts towards climate action for the post-COVID world, whilst achieving carbon neutrality in the build up to the COP 26 in Glasgow, UK.
The 2021 P4G Seoul Summit includes 5 five key sectors of “Clean Water, Food and Agriculture, Clean Energy, Sustainable Cities and Circular Economy” and other various Green Future sessions on other pertinent issues; ocean, forestry, green technology, green finance to name a few.
The Summit will conclude with the adoption of the Seoul Declaration, which will embody the discussion outcomes and reflect our collective will and innovative solutions to deal with climate change and achieve the SDGs.
P4G was launched in 2017 as a global initiative to address the most urgent challenges currently facing our planet: climate change and achieving progress in SDGs by 2030. Following the outcomes of the inaugural P4G Summit held in Copenhagen, Denmark in October 2018, the 2nd Summit in Seoul aims to firmly establish this important global forum as a unique platform in the field of climate change and sustainable development.
Fiji’s experience and leadership in tackling the climate change and development agenda as a Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) member will be vital to achieving the global goals embraced by P4G. The commemoration of the 10th Anniversary of the Global Green Growth Institute this year, reflects on GGGI’s commitment to the P4G initiative as its founding member and its dedication to advance partnerships for green growth and the 2030 goals.
The Fijian delegation for 2021 P4G Summit is led by PM Bainimarama and the team from Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), and Ministry of Economy (MOE), together with the Korean Embassy based in Suva.
