The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Provides Assistance to Support Fiji’s Response to COVID-19

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS) is providing humanitarian assistance to assist Fiji’s response to the second wave of COVID-19.

The assistance worth USD $24,000 which equates to FJD $49,800 will enable the Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) to procure essential resources to equip the health facilities with new sets of 400 mattresses, 400 pillows, 1150 linen bed covers and 650 pillow covers.

In acknowledging this timely assistance, the Honourable Minister for Health and Medical Services Hon. Ifereimi Waqainabete conveyed the Fijian Government’s appreciation to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for their compassion and commitment in reaching out to Fiji at this time of great need.

He said this assistance adds value to the tireless efforts and sacrifices of the Health care workers in Fiji who aspire to protect and safeguard the lives of all Fijians.

Dr. Waqainabete said The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has been working closely with the Ministry of Health and Medical Services in the past as well and their continued support through such initiatives demonstrates their passion to serve the nation.

“And as well, it reflects on the important role that Faith Based Organisations (FBOs) have towards working in solidarity with the Government and other stakeholders to advance the national interests and priorities, especially at a time when our nation needs all the support it can,”Minister Waqainabete said.

“While the battle against COVID-19 ahead is tough, together as a nation with everyone working together, Fiji will get through this.”

Elder Paul B Whippy of the Pacific Area Seventy said that the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints is proud to be able to make this contribution in appreciation of the Government’s response to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.

In reaffirming their continued support to Fiji, LDS Church also commended the Ministry of Health officials who are working hard to contain the virus.

“On behalf of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints leaders and members throughout the world, including Fiji we are very pleased to provide this donation to Government to assist and support them in their very difficult role in leading out in the nation’s combined efforts to combat the Coronavirus.

“With this and other physical donations that we have and that we will continue to provide to Government and other stake holders, we add our faith and prayers on behalf of all those who are affected and others who are sacrificing so much in providing selfless service to others, during this pandemic.

“We testify that God our Father loves all his children and He will bless us with his love, peace and unity as we combine our efforts and resources to do all we can to support each other during this time of trial and tribulation” Elder Paul B Whippy said.
