Fiji Receives 2.7 Million KN-95 Respirators from Australia

The Government of the Republic of Korea through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Fiji Office will be providing additional support to the Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MoHMS) of Fiji in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The second batch of donation consisting of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and non-contact infrared thermometers to support the frontline health workers are anticipated to be handed over to MoHMS in mid-September.
These additional 1,420 PPE kits, which consist of surgical gowns, disposable masks (N95), non-woven aprons and masks, dental bib and masks with eye shield, together with 210 non-contact thermometers have been provided by the Government of the Republic of Korea.
As of now in 2021, KOICA has provided 8,000 KF94 masks, 3,315 PPE kits and 500 Infrared non-contact thermometers, with a total value of FJ$420,000, to support Fiji in tackling the pandemic. Most supplies have been delivered to hospitals and its being optimally utilized.
“As a key partner in the health sector, it is crucial for KOICA to support Fiji in its fight against COVID-19. KOICA will continue to support MoHMS to overcome challenges posed by the pandemic,” said Mr. Kapchae Ra, the Country Director of KOICA Fiji Office.
Additionally Mr. Ra highlighted that the Government of the Republic of Korea stands with the Fijian Government and people in the collective battle against the pandemic. “Hence, if we act together in solidarity, we can get through this crisis,” Mr. Ra stated.
KOICA remains committed to provide support to the Ministry of Health and Medical Services of Fiji and it will continue providing lifesaving supplies through the generous support of the Government of Korea. KOICA will scale up projects with MoHMS to strengthen health facilities in Fiji.
In acknowledging this timely assistance, the Honourable Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr. Ifereimi Waqainabete conveyed the Fijian Government’s appreciation to the Government of Korea for this comprehensive support.
“We are grateful to the Government of Korea for their remarkable support and commitment towards assisting Fiji.
“The swift assistance at this time of great need demonstrates the strong bonds of friendship and collaboration between the two nations,” Dr. Waqainabete said.
Dr. Waqainabete further stated that this support will greatly assist Fiji’s frontline workers to safely and effectively deliver an enhanced public health response that is required to contain the pandemic.
