Over 100 civil servants of specific ministries and agencies involved in planning for the high level and state visits will be equipped with the knowledge and competency required to coordinate the protocol and etiquette facilitation and planning of high level visits.
The official opening of the first session of the 3 days protocol was done today by the Minister for Defence, National Security and Foreign Affairs Hon. Inia Seruiratu.
Minister Seruiratu acknowledged the continued support from the Government of New Zealand in facilitating the workforce training and capacity building programs for Fiji. He also emphasised to the diplomats on the importance of having the values of patriotism and commitment to advance the interests of Fiji at the global stage. He also spoke about change management and the need for paradigm shift to adapt well to the global changes and to ensure that Fiji is able to maximise socioeconomic development opportunities through excellence in foreign services.
Similarly, Ms. Halia Haddad, the Deputy High Commissioner at the New Zealand High Commission reaffirmed New Zealand’s continued support for Fiji in its aspirations to strengthen its international relations and diplomacy.
Ms Haddad said the training will complement the preparation and coordination among government agencies whilst preparing for upcoming visits and events where next month Fiji will host the New Zealand Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs the Rt. Hon. Winston Peters along with the ADB Annual Meeting to be held in May this year.
