Fiji and Cuba bolster its Diplomatic Ties

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of New Zealand Right Honorable Winston Raymond Peters will be heading a high level delegation to Fiji this week. Mr Peters arrived into the country yesterday afternoon and then today (Wednesday 27th Feb 2019) he will be holding bilateral meetings with senior government officials, before departing for Tarawa, Kiribati on Thursday 28th February 2019.
The Hon Deputy Prime Minister’s delegation also includes the New Zealand Minister for Social Development and Disability Issues, Hon. Carmel Sepuloni, and Minister for Pacific Peoples, Hon. Aupito William Sio, who will also be undertaking bilateral meetings with the Fijian MP’s and Ministers.
Fiji and New Zealand share a long and enduring diplomatic partnership which spans economic, political and people to people linkages. New Zealand is a key trading partner for Fiji with trade between the two countries totalling to around F$924.57 million in 2017. Additionally, New Zealand is Fiji’s second largest tourism source market with increases in arrivals from New Zealand reaching a record high in 2018.
This visit will be an opportunity to consolidate the growing relations between Fiji and New Zealand at all levels following the recent announcement of a ‘Pacific Reset’ by the New Zealand Government.
DPM Peters is expected to pay a courtesy call to His Excellency Major General (Rt’d) Jioji Konrote, President of the Republic of Fiji and meet with the Honorable Acting Prime Minister and Attorney General, Hon. Aiyaz Sayed- Khaiyum and the Minister for Defence, National Security and Foreign Affairs, Hon. Inia Seruiratu
