Fiji Mission in UK promotes Tourism Initiatives

Fiji’s dynamic foreign policies have opened avenues for the development of robust engagements with European countries such as Romania.
This has seen the appointment of the first ever Non-Resident Ambassador designate of Romania to Fiji, H.E Nineta Bărbulescu.
On Wednesday this week, H.E Bărbulescu presented her credentials to His Excellency, the President of Fiji, Major General (Ret’d) Jioji Konusi Konrote, followed by a courtesy call on the Minister for Defence, National Security and Foreign Affairs, Hon. Inia Seruiratu, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Suva.
Minister Seruiratu congratulated Ambassador Barbulescu for her diplomatic appointment and reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to broaden its friendship and diplomatic collaboration with Romania. Both Fiji and Romania have expressed interests to explore partnership in areas of sports diplomacy, education and renewable energy.
Minister Seruiratu also acknowledged Romania’s bid for a seat for the Eastern European Group in the United Nations Security Council for the term 2020-2021.
Ambassador Barbulescu said that she is committed on advancing the bilateral relations and development interests between Fiji and Romania. She also extended an invitation for Minister Seruiratu to visit Romania.
The Romanian Ambassador also commended Fiji for its worldwide leadership at the 2017 UN Climate Change Conference (COP23) and reaffirmed Romania’s support for Fiji’s priorities, particularly for sustainable development, climate change and environment protection. She also offered the Romanian government’s offer to potentially provide Fiji with the diplomatic training opportunities at Bucharest, Romania.
Fiji and Romania established diplomatic relations on the 15th of August 1975.
